Important: Annual Price Changes

On 31 March each year, BT broadband prices increase by £4/month. For example, Full Fibre Essential at £29.99 becomes £33.99 from March 2026, then £37.99 from March 2027. All prices shown are in-contract rates.

What's the Difference Between Each Package?

Full Fibre Essential

Average 36 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload

BT's entry-level fibre package delivers consistent speeds for web browsing, email, and catch-up TV. The 10 Mbps upload handles video calls and cloud backups without interruption. A practical choice for single-person households or couples without heavy streaming demands.

24-month contract, £0 setup fee

Full Fibre 2

Average 74 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload

Doubles the speed of Essential for just £2 more. The 20 Mbps upload makes this BT's recommended tier for home workers on regular video calls. Streams Netflix in 4K on one TV while others browse—though simultaneous 4K streams may buffer during peak hours.

24-month contract, £0 setup fee

Full Fibre 150

Average 150 Mbps download, 30 Mbps upload

BT's most popular package according to their sales data. The jump to 150 Mbps eliminates buffering concerns for households running multiple HD streams, gaming sessions, and smart home devices. The 30 Mbps upload supports YouTube uploads and Twitch streaming at 1080p.

24-month contract, £0 setup fee

Full Fibre 300

Average 300 Mbps download, 49 Mbps upload

The upload speed increase to 49 Mbps is the key differentiator here—valuable for households with multiple remote workers or content creators. Downloads 50GB game updates in under 25 minutes. Provides headroom for families where everyone streams, games, or works online simultaneously.

24-month contract, £0 setup fee

Full Fibre 500

Average 500 Mbps download, 73 Mbps upload

Realistically, few UK households need speeds beyond 500 Mbps. The 73 Mbps upload enables 4K live streaming and rapid cloud backups. Online gamers benefit from the lower latency that full fibre provides—Ofcom data shows FTTP connections average 8-12ms ping versus 14-20ms on FTTC.

24-month contract, £0 setup fee

Full Fibre 900

Average 900 Mbps download, 110 Mbps upload

BT's flagship tier—near-gigabit speeds for £41.99/month. The 110 Mbps upload rivals many business connections, making this suitable for professional video editors, developers pushing large repositories, or households running home servers. Future-proofs for 8K streaming when it becomes mainstream.

Is BT Broadband Worth It?

BT is the UK's largest telecommunications provider, with over 160 years of history building the nation's communications infrastructure. As the parent company of EE and Plusnet, BT holds approximately 32% of the UK broadband market with around 9 million customers.

BT's Full Fibre packages offer genuine fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connections, delivering speeds from 36 Mbps to 900 Mbps. Unlike part-fibre connections that use copper for the final stretch, Full Fibre provides more reliable speeds and lower latency - ideal for gaming and video calls.

The Stay Fast Guarantee sets BT apart - they actively monitor your connection speed and commit to fixing any issues, or they'll give you £20 compensation. Combined with the Complete Wi-Fi guarantee and Smart Hub 2 router, BT offers a comprehensive package for households wanting reliable connectivity.

While BT isn't the cheapest option, you're paying for network reliability, customer service, and the flexibility to add TV, phone, and mobile services. For those wanting a trusted provider with comprehensive support, BT remains a strong choice.

Why Choose BT Broadband?

  • Stay Fast Guarantee: BT monitors your connection and guarantees the speed to your hub. If your speed drops, they'll fix it or give you £20.
  • Complete Wi-Fi: Get reliable Wi-Fi in every room with BT's mesh Wi-Fi system. Extra discs provided if needed, or get £100 back.
  • Smart Hub 2: Award-winning router included with all packages, featuring intelligent channel switching for optimal performance.
  • Full Fibre Technology: All packages use 100% fibre optic cables for faster, more reliable connectivity than part-fibre connections.
  • BT Virus Protect: Free security software for 2 devices to keep your family safe online.
  • UK-Based Support: 93% of calls handled in UK and Ireland with dedicated customer service teams.
  • Flexible Add-ons: Add EE TV packages, TNT Sports, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to customise your entertainment.
  • Digital Voice: Modern landline technology with crystal-clear calls and smart features.

Things to Consider Before Signing Up

1

Annual Price Increases

BT increases prices on 31 March each year - £4/month for broadband plans. From March 2026, the price shown will increase. Factor this into your budget when comparing deals.

2

Broadband Only Removes Landline

Choosing broadband only means you'll lose your home phone number permanently. You won't be able to make or receive calls, including emergency services calls from your landline.

3

Full Fibre Availability

Full Fibre (FTTP) is available to around 8% of UK homes. Part Fibre (FTTC) covers 91%. Check availability at your address before ordering.

4

Equipment Ownership

BT owns the Smart Hub and any TV boxes provided. You must return equipment when you leave BT, or you may be charged. You have 60 days to return items.

5

Installation May Require Survey

For Full Fibre, Openreach may need to survey your property before installation. This could extend setup time and potentially incur additional costs if extra work is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I choose Broadband Only?

You'll lose your home phone number permanently and won't be able to make or receive calls on your landline, including emergency services calls. Personal alarms connected to your phone line will also stop working. You can add a landline back later, but you'll get a new number.

What's the difference between Full Fibre and Part Fibre?

Full Fibre (FTTP) uses fibre optic cables all the way to your home, offering faster and more reliable speeds. Part Fibre (FTTC) uses fibre to the street cabinet, then copper to your home - this limits speeds and reliability. Full Fibre is available to about 8% of UK homes, while Part Fibre covers 91%.

How does the Stay Fast Guarantee work?

BT guarantees the speed to your hub. Check your speed using the My BT app, online, or by calling 0800 800 150. If after 30 days they can't get you back to the promised speed, you'll get a £20 Reward card. You can claim up to four times per year. This excludes outages and faults outside BT's control.

When do BT prices increase?

On 31 March each year, broadband prices increase by £4/month and TV plans by £2/month. Out of bundle charges increase by 5%. These increases apply even during your contract period. All prices shown on this page are the in-contract rates before the annual increase.

What about Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?

Some Full Fibre packages include 6 or 12 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. After this period, you'll move to a rolling monthly contract at £10/month unless you cancel. You can also add Game Pass to any broadband package for £10/month through your My BT account.

Do I need to return equipment when I leave?

Yes. BT owns the Smart Hub and any TV boxes provided. When you leave or upgrade, you must return these items within 60 days (including time for BT to send you a jiffy bag). If not returned, you may be charged. You can also drop items off at an EE store.
