Switch from BT Broadband

Everything you need to know about leaving BT and switching to a new broadband provider with minimal hassle.

Switching from BT is Easy

BT uses the Openreach network, which means switching to most other providers (EE, Sky, Plusnet, TalkTalk, etc.) is handled automatically through the One Touch Switch system.

You don't need to contact BT to cancel - just sign up with your new provider and they'll handle the switch. BT will send you a final bill for any remaining charges.

If switching to Virgin Media, the process is slightly different as they use a separate cable network, but your new provider will still guide you through.

Steps to Switch from BT

  • Check Contract End Date: Log into My BT or call to find when your contract ends.
  • Early Termination Fees: If in contract, calculate potential fees before switching.
  • Price Rise Exit: If BT raised prices mid-contract, you have 30 days to leave free.
  • Choose New Provider: Sign up with your new provider - they'll handle the rest.
  • Keep Your Number: Tell your new provider if you want to keep your phone number.
  • Return Equipment: Send back any BT equipment in the provided packaging.

BT Early Termination Fees

If you're still in your minimum contract period, BT may charge early termination fees. These are typically the remaining monthly fees for your contract period.

Important: If BT has raised your prices during your contract, you have the right to leave penalty-free within 30 days of receiving the price increase notice.

Check your contract end date in My BT or on your bill before making a decision.
